Baby feeding
NCT fully supports and respects all parents on their choice of feeding their baby - whether they breastfeed, bottle feed or both.
NCT has a range of policy briefings on aspects of baby feeding , including briefings related to the WHO Code, health inequalities, breastfeeding in public places, formula feeding and introducing solid foods. These reflect and expand on the broad principles set out in NCT's baby feeding policy (see related documents below). A number of shorter position statements are also available. You may also be interested in other related briefings and articles on public health, access and diversity, and the organisation and development of maternity services, including user involvement in the planning and monitoring of services.
Also available from NCT on the topic of baby feeding are reviews of evidence, first published in NCT’s quarterly continuing professional development journal New Digest, which includes the recent overview of research on choosing a formula.
You may also be interested in government policy and documents from professionals bodies for the UK, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and NICE clinical guidelines, and NCT’s campaign for a full and effective ban on the advertising of bottle milk formula.
