South East – Lonnie

Lonnie became regional co-ordinator in October 2008 supporting the 41 branches in the South East when Region 4 split into two and the part she lives in was in South East region. She lives in Edenbridge in Kent with her husband Nick and their 4 children Phoebe 11, Eloisa 9, Conrad 7 and Aoife 5 (with her in the picture).

Lonnie started her involvement with the NCT when she was pregnant with her oldest attending antenatal classes before moving on to enjoying the support her local branch offered attending coffee mornings and Nearly New Sales.

She attended refresher courses with her cecond child but became more involved as a volunteer after the birth of her third child. She was firsly coure support coordinator before taking onthe role of Nearly New Sale coordinator. In April 2008 Lonnie qualified as a breastfeeding counsellor. She joined region in October 2004 first as BFC representative, moving on to being an area rep and for a while the regional trustee, before becoming joint co-ordinator of region 4 and finally the South East region co-ordinator.

Lonnie enjoys the work with branches that region can offer and recognizes that a lot of branches are in need of support on a more local level. She hopes that in time SE region can be build up to providing just that sort of support and aid for the branches. She feels it is of vital importance that specialist workers also remain involved with the volunteer roles of the NCT. For her, region has provided this opportunity and, as her own children have grown older, she gets a great deal of enjoyment from this.

Lonnie hopes to meet plenty of people from SE region PSA volunteers and SW alike and if any of you are interested to know more about region work please approach her for a chat.
